Argh why is sihan so beautiful? *dries tears* Annie there is Kyuhan so grab those pillows okay. Anything for you you should know that <3 And hjdsfjkhdsflkjdsfhld HENRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dependence.
Trust.
It was so different when you were looked up to, when someone trusted you, when someone depended on you.
"Gege, read me a story." Little Henry said crawling into bed where Hankyung had been reading a book.
Hankyung put down his own book and made room for the little seven year old. Henry settled down under Hankyung's arm and handed over his book. It was a fairy tale book, American or Canadian, the only reminder that Henry had of his parents. Hankyung took the book and opened it. He didn't know the words, could only understand some, but he had stories.
He told Henry about a princess who danced at night because she was afraid of the world seeing her. He told Henry of the prince that saw her one night, about how he came to see her every night and about how one night she was gone. He told Henry about how the princess had discovered she was bring watched, about how she found out about the prince and who he was and how she left because they could never be together.
When Hankyung was done with his story he looked down and saw that Henry was asleep, curled under his arm, forehead relaxed, breathing even.
It pulled at something in his heart to see the little boy there with him. It really was different. It was different and nice to have someone who looked up to you, who trusted you completely, loved you without a second thought. Who would ever lie to the person who trusted them? What kind of person did that make you?
But even as he looked at the sleeping boy in his arms, he knew, he had just lied. He hadn't read what was in the book. And there was in essence his answer. Sometimes it was necessary to lie to make someone happy. White lies. And sometimes, sometimes, people lied because others made them.
"Hankyung?"
Hankyung looked up and there was Heechul. Heechul had never lied to him.
"You bored him to death didn't you?" Heechul asked nodding towards Henry.
"I'm not you Heechul-ah. I told him a story and he fell asleep."
Heechul shook his head and came to sit on Hankyung's bed so that he could run his fingers through Henry's hair. The little boy turned into Hankyung's side and continued sleeping.
"You'll make a good dad one day." Heechul said.
Hankyung laughed softly. "I don't think I ever will be a dad. I'm in love with the wrong gender."
"Look at me and Zhou Mi." Heechul said shrugging. "We have Henry, even if he is a pain sometimes."
"Where's Zhou Mi?"
"He probably went out to get something to surprise me with."
"You don't sound so excited." Hankyung said running his fingers through Henry's hair.
"Sometimes it's the familiarity that makes your heart jump Hankyung." Heechul said his dark eyes looking at something else. "Sometimes you don't need the excitement because sometimes it's nice to know what to expect. It's nice to know that things won't change. Love doesn't always need to change. Sometimes it's nice to know that that peace and warmth won't ever change."
"I want to love Heechul.”
"No you don’t Hannie.” Heechul said squeezing Hankyung’s hand. “Not yet. It’s too soon. Now to sleep and I'll take Henry to his room. Kyuhyun is taking you to that bookstore tomorrow to get you a job. Sleep well Hankyung."
"You too." Hankyung said watching as Heechul picked up Henry.
He picked up his book, the book that that man had given him, that man named Siwon, because he did know his name, could never forget his name, would never forget his name.
“It’s too late Heechul.” He whispered to no one. “It’s always been too late. I love him.”
***
Kyuhyun was slightly smug and had every right to be. He could still feel Sungmin against him, Sungmin’s hands in his hair, those plump lips on his, that warmth, those sounds. He knew them all so well. He liked how their argument about lies and denial had led to a make out session. It was only a matter of time.
He knew it.
Kyuhyun would have Sungmin back in the real world pretty soon. And as for Sunny. Well, Sunny had to know that there were some things you couldn’t help.
He knocked on Heechul and Zhou Mi’s door at exactly seven on the dot. He wanted to catch Zhou Mi before he went off to ask Sungmin for a favor. He wanted to see Zhou Mi because it had been a while and because Zhou Mi had left him and it had left that hole in him for a while. He just wanted to make sure that he was really over Zhou Mi, really happy to chase after Sungmin.
He knocked and as luck would have it, it was Hankyung who opened, not Zhou Mi. Zhou Mi couldn’t have opened because Zhou Mi was busy kissing Heechul. Kyuhyun watched and didn’t feel what he thought he should have felt, felt the wrong thing especially when a little boy with pinchable cheeks ran at Heechul and Zhou Mi.
“Papa. I want food.”
Zhou Mi laughed and picked the little boy up. “I don’t know why you always ask me Henry. You know Heechul is the one who cooks here.”
“Yeah, I am and you need to appreciate me more.” Heechul said holding his hands out for Henry.
“I love you appa.” Henry said going to Heechul. “Han Geng gege, what are you doing?”
“I’m waiting for Kyuhyun to walk in.” Hankyung said bringing back Kyuhyun.
“Kui Xian?” Zhou Mi called. “Is that you?”
Kyuhyun faltered at the nickname but it was only a second and then he was watching the small family before him. Who would have thought that he could like Heechul all the more?
“You built a family huh Mi?” Kyuhyun said taking Hankyung’s hand.
Zhou Mi looked at him. Unspoken words. Always unspoken words, things left unsaid, things too late to say now.
"I had to build something." Zhou Mi said.
Kyuhyun nodded. Was there anything to say? Probably not. They had said everything that last time, had shouted it for the world to hear, had ended it all in a tangle of furious arms and legs and curses. It was over.
"I didn't think Heechul would make a good mother, not with the time he spends at that club." Kyuhyun said because there was nothing else to say.
"Mother?" Little Henry asked. "Heechul is not my mother. He's my favorite appa."
"And I'm your favorite papa aren't I?" Zhou Mi asked.
"Yes! And Han Geng hyung is my favorite gege!"
"Come Henry." Hankyung said in that same soft voice he always used, a voice that sounded afraid of speaking out sometimes, a voice that said protect me.
"Okay gege." Henry said squirming until Heechul put him down.
"I'll make you breakfast. We both know I cook better than Heechul anyway." Hankyung said taking Henry's hand and pulling him along.
"Yah! Just because they like your food better doesn't mean anything. They're all just being nice to you!" Heechul yelled after Henry and Hankyung.
When there was no answer he turned to Zhou Mi. "I know you like my cooking."
Zhou Mi nodded serious, but he turned to Kyuhyun and gave him a pained look. Kyuhyun didn't even blink. It was so natural that he smile and he was glad he did, espcially when Zhou Mi smiled in return.
"So." Kyuhyun said just because he could. "Henry? He's cute."
"He's Canadian. Zhou Mi found him and we kept him." Heechul answered. "He absolutely loves and adores Hankyung. And he would eat anything that didn't run away first. But, he's a good boy, does good at school and is a genius when it comes to that violin of his."
Kyuhyun nodded.
"Well, come to the kitchen then." Zhou Mi said. "Han Geng is making breakfast. You want to stay for that."
Kyuhyun stayed. He stayed because he liked Zhou Mi and Heechul and he liked Hankyung and because when Henry came back to the room he was pouting and Kyuhyun couldn't say no. Who would have thought that it would be a seven year old that would break him?
Zhou Mi left after breakfast and Kyuhyun was chasing Henry around the room while Hankyung got ready.
"Gotcha!" Kyuhyun said grabbing onto a squealing Henry.
"Do you want to be my favorite hyung?" Henry asked from Kyuhyun's arms.
"Okay." Kyuhyun said putting down Henry and looking up to see Hankyung and Heechul with almost twin expression on their faces.
"You two are scary." Kyuhyun said. "Are you sure you weren't separated at birth?"
"We were," Heechul said. "That's why I'll know if something happens to him. You better take care of him Kyuhyun and make sure to tell Sungmin that I'll come after him if he doesn't treat him properly."
"Where are you going Heechul-ah?" Hankyung asked hugging the little boy at his feet.
"I'm dropping Henry off at school then I'm going to see my father and I'll come by to see you later."
"You don't have to."
"I want to so deal with it and you Henry go get ready."
"Are we going to school? Really? I love school. Ryeowook is my best friend in the entire universe. We're going to be in a band one day. He's going to sing and I'll play the violin and we'll be rich."
“Yes, we heard.” Heechul said leading Henry away. “Have fun Hankyung and take care of him for me Kyuhyun.”
Kyuhyun nodded and took Hankyung’s hand. They walked out, Kyuhyun telling Hankyung about the bookstore and how there were rarely any people there but how it was nice and how he liked to go in there to use the computers. He was just getting to the part about computer games when Hankyung opened the door to the bookstore.
Kyuhyun blinked. He hadn't even realized they were there. He took Hankyung's hand and pulled him along to where Sungmin was talking to a costumer. Kyuhyun watched him, knew what was going to happen even before Sungmin looked up.
"Hello." Sungmin said to Hankyung completely ignoring Kyuhyun. "You're Hankyung right?"
"Yes." Hankyung answered looking around the bookstore in awe. "Do you own this?"
Sungmin laughed. "I like you. But, no, this isn't mine. I just work here, But I've been working here long enough to know people. You don't have to do much. Stack books, put them back, work the cash register when they send me to do anything else. Just do whatever the manager tells you."
"I can follow orders." Hankyung answered.
"Don't let them tell you what to do." Kyuhyun said. "If you don't like it you don't have to do it."
Hankyung turned to him. "I don't?"
"No," Sungmin said. "You don't."
Hankyung nodded. "I'm sorry. I asked because I didn't know."
Kyuhyun saw the question in Sungmin's eyes and he wasn't sure how to answer. Where was Hankyung from? How were they supposed to answer that simple question? It wouldn't be fair to Hankyung if they introduced him as an ex stripper. He had left that behind and there was no reason to bring it back up.
"Where did you work before this?" Sungmin asked watching the way Hankyung touched the books almost reverently. "They didn't have books?"
"Not so many in one place." Hankyung answered. "And we always did what they told us."
"Hankyung why don't you go and read whatever book you want. I'll let you know when you need to do anything. We can go out for lunch later."
Hankyung smiled almost shy. Kyuhyun watched him, watched the eternal grace, the delicate, almost breakable aura.
"You found him at the club didn't you?" Sungmin said once Hankyung was gone. "Who is he?"
"He's my Sunny."
Kyuhyun knew he'd hit home when Sungmin didn't say anything. He wasn't surprised to see the anger in that pretty face, wasn't surprised when Sungmin leaned forward.
"You know that's not funny."
Kyuhyun smirked. "It's amusing to me Min. It's hilarious. I just fucking love how you're dating her when you were telling me all that yesterday."
"I lIke her."
"Liar." Kyuhyun said leaning forward, so close, almost were he wanted to be.
"I don't lie." Sungmin said letting his eyes stray.
"Ask me to do it Sungmin."
"Do what?"
"I want to kiss you." Kyuhyun said bluntly.
He waited as Sungmin's eyes locked with his. He saw the look there and he understood it. He liked it. He knew without anyone telling him how this was going to end. And there was no excuse this time. There was no excuse because they were both sober, in plain daylight. This time it was because they both wanted, because it was real. And then Sungmin's phone rang.
"Hello?" Sungmin said his eyes still on Kyuhyun.
There was a pause.
"Oh. Hello Sunny."
Kyuhyun smiled. It figured. He was considering walking away when Hankyung wandered back. It was the bright eyed, ecstatic look on his face that made Kyuhyun do it. That and because he knew it would bother the hell out of Sungmin and if Sungmin could dangle Sunny in his face then Kyuhyun could dangle his own personal Sunny too.
“Kui Xian.” Hankyung said coming over and showing him the books he had. “I love reading.”
“Kui Xian?” Kyuhyun asked taking Hankyung’s hand knowing full well that Sungmin was watching him.
“I heard Zhou Mi call you that and I like it.” Hankyung said. “But, look! I like horror the best. Do you think I could read these or should I get them all and read them later? Do you think Heechul will mind? Where will I put them all?”
Kyuhyun laughed. “If he doesn’t let you get them come to my house. We’ll read them together nice and comfortable. I have a nice bed.”
“Yes, Sunny. I like you too. I miss you.” Sungmin said raising his voice.
“I’ll buy them all for you.” Kyuhyun said taking the books and putting them on the counter. “I’ll take them all please.”
Sungmin blinked at him.
“You don’t have to.” Hankyung said.
Kyuhyun turned to look at him. He tilted his head to the right and looked at Hankyung. He nodded.
“I want to.”
“I can buy them.”
“Well, someone is going to have to pay for them.” Sungmin interrupted.
Kyuhyun pulled out his wallet and put down a few bills on the counter. He waited as Sungmin wrapped them and then he handed the whole package to Hankyung.
“Enjoy.”
“Thank you Kui Xian.” Hankyung said smiling that same innocent smile.
It was as if he had been handed over the key to ultimate happiness, as if what he was getting was more than a couple of books, as if Kyuhyun had just given him what he most wanted in the world. It was enough to make Kyuhyun happy that he had bought them, but also sad. Sad because it was something he had taken for granted, piles of book at his apartment left untouched, left to yellow with age when they meant everything to Hankyung because he had never had them. Putting this whole Sungmin jealousy thing aside, he was glad he could make Hankyung smile.
He did it because Hankyung was happy and there was just something about that happiness that was so innocent. It made his heart wrench. It made him angry that Hankyung was so sweet and innocent and that he had been denied life because of some bad luck. He could have had such a different life, so much better. He did it because he wanted to and because he wanted to make Hankyung smile.
“It was my pleasure.” Kyuhyun said leaning forward.
He placed a kiss on Hankyung’s cheek.
Hankyung smiled again. Sungmin looked at Kyuhyun and when they looked at each other Kyuhyun knew that Sungmin understood. He saw it again, that same look, that look that said that Sungmin was so close. He was going to have to talk to Sungmin and soon.
“Kyuhyun.”
Kyuhyun turned but he didn’t have to. He recognized the voice and the look in Hankyung’s eyes did not make him happy. Siwon. Why was Hankyung so happy that Siwon was here? Hankyung had met Siwon yesterday. Had to have met Siwon yesterday.
“What do you want?” Kyuhyun asked.
“I came to see Sungmin.” Siwon said eyes angry for a reason Kyuhyun didn’t understand, “What happened Kyuhyun. I thought you liked Sungmin. I thought I could trust you. What are you doing with Han Geng?”
“How do you know Hankyung?” Kyuhyun asked.
He didn’t like this. How did Siwon know Hankyung?
“That is none of your business.” Siwon snapped. “I need to talk to you Hankyung.”
“You don’t need to talk to him.” Kyuhyun said stepping forward.
“No.” Hankyung said moving to take Siwon’s hand. “It’s okay. I promise. I want to talk to him.”
Kyuhyun didn’t like it. He let them go because Hankyung said it was okay but he didn’t like it. He watched as Siwon took Hankyung’s hand, took the books from him and pulled him deeper into the bookstore. He was watching them walk away when he realized what was wrong.
“Sungmin.” He said turning back wide eyed. “We need to talk.”
Sungmin nodded. “Yes we do. About a lot. Tell me where Hankyung is from and I’ll tell you why I think Siwon knows him.”
Kyuhyun nodded. He had to talk to Sungmin and then he had to call Heechul.
