In my head, it goes something like this:

Luis: *breathes*
Manuel, already buying an engagement ring and planning their wedding: we should date

But I liked the idea of a character who hasn't yet recognized that he can just ask and be told the truth. In a longer piece, I think I'd like to dive into the relationship between Luis and his mother.
